Dramatically Reduce IBM Domino Server Storage Costs, Improve Server and Network Performance, Ensure Tight Security, Recover Idle User Accounts
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK, October 18, 2004 - At the ADMIN2004 Europe show today, DYS Analytics, Inc., a leader in application performance management for messaging and collaboration applications, announced the new CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI). CUI helps IT staff "Efficiencize" IBM Lotus Domino application databases and user accounts with comprehensive Domino database usage metrics and analysis - information that IT cannot otherwise obtain through platform tools or in-house created utilities.
Part of the DYS CONTROL! family of application performance management solutions for collaboration environments, CUI helps IT save on storage and replication costs, reduce security risks and improve service levels to best maintain peak Domino performance at lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). CUI is available in December 2004 and is sold directly by DYS Analytics and through partners such as IBM.
Inactive - or little used - Domino databases, mailboxes and user accounts needlessly consume server storage and/or CPU resources, potentially consume valuable WAN bandwidth and expose the organization to security risks. Yet IT managers lack the ability to identify and cleanup enterprise-distributed databases and user IDs. Usually IT resorts to error prone and time-consuming manual evaluations or just ignores the problem by purchasing more WAN, server, disk and user license capacity. This issue is particularly acute in organizations with thousands of databases and users spread across a world-wide server network.
DYS CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI) captures transactional data for each database, user ID and server - providing vital information and workflow processes to:
- Save Storage, CPU And Bandwidth Costs - By removing inactive databases, little used replicas, and unused mailboxes, IT frees up capacity -storage, server CPU and bandwidth - thereby reducing backup/restore times, eliminating additional storage capacity needs and shrinking WAN bandwidth loads.
- Balance Server Loads - By accurately measuring actual database use across the entire organization, IT ensures that it is getting maximum performance from each Domino server.
- Rationalize Replica Deployment - By examining database use, IT can determine which replica copies are still needed, which are no longer needed and where additional replicas may be needed.
- Tighten Security - IT identifies unauthorized database and mailbox access so permissions can be updated, HR action taken or stale user IDs removed.
- Plan Accurately for Major Projects - CUI identifies unused or infrequently used applications and replicas so they can be eliminated before server consolidations or upgrades - cleaning up the environment, increasing project success and decreasing project costs.
- Automate End-to-End Application Management - assuring that mission-critical databases are constantly monitored, even when IT staffs are busy with other tasks. CUI is fully integrated into the DYS CONTROL! Web portal, so results can be analyzed swiftly and right alongside reports from other CONTROL! products. Administrators can personalize and configure CONTROL! portals to each audience.
Identified Wasted Storage, Inactive Licenses Immediately
"With DYS usage analysis, we quickly identified dozens of unused databases across our enterprise network that we archived and removed -- saving $80,000 US annually on additional server capacity from just this cleanup alone," said Auguste Goldman, senior manager of the Notes Competency Center at Linde Group, one of the largest industrial gas suppliers in the world. "We later identified and retired 350 user accounts that further cleaned up our network and got us ready for our current server consolidation project. DYS has fundamentally changed the way we run our business. We are seeing significant TCO savings as well as service level improvements. This new product continues DYS' long-standing value in 'efficiencizing' our global Domino network."
"Our new CONTROL! Usage Investigator product is a one-of-a-kind solution with immediate and substantial cost-savings," said Stefan Mehlhorn, CEO of DYS Analytics. As IT faces flat or only slightly increased budgets, staffs look to trusted vendors for ways to do more with less. We're answering that call by helping them clean up, save time and costs, and get greater control over their Domino applications."
What's In CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI):
CONTROL! Usage Investigator is sold as a standalone solution and as part of the DYS CONTROL! suite. CUI includes facilities for:
- Automated collection - DYS' proven Information Flow Manager (IFM) module efficiently collects, on a schedule basis, relevant data from each server across the enterprise. IFM analyzes and correlates this data to the Domino Directory.
- Analysis and querying is performed using a SQL-based Analysis Database that contains a unique business-oriented schema optimized for efficient processing of database access/usage tracking analysis.
- Report distribution - using any of the included reports or using the rich drag and drop-based Report Designer, IT staff can view the analysis within the desktop client or have it posted as Web portals. Optimal email notifications alert users when their portals have been updated.
- Automation and administration through a Task Manager allowing IT staff to create automated tasks and portals on an unattended, scheduled basis.
