New DYS CONTROL! Server Consolidation Service for IBM Lotus Domino

WELLESLEY MA, May 10, 2004 - DYS Analytics, Inc., a leader in application performance management for messaging and collaboration applications, announced a new professional service to "Efficiencize" Domino server consolidation projects on IBM eServer systems and other Domino server platforms. The DYS' CONTROL! Server Consolidation Service leverages DYS' years of experience and its robust CONTROL! products to help IT staff deliver an optimized consolidation project, on-budget and on-time. DYS CONTROL! products can be obtained from DYS Analytics or from IBM. The CONTROL! Server Consolidation Service is available now.

Server consolidation is an increasingly popular way to lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and increase Quality of Service (QoS) - particularly when using IBM's eServer platforms with its lower operational costs. However, server consolidation projects are complex, highly visible, and potentially very disruptive. These projects demand very careful planning and delivery. The DYS Service provides an efficient consolidation design and action plan that lets organizations:

  • Reduce Project Costs by accurately sizing post consolidation server, network and storage load requirements.
  • Eliminate Project Risks by providing quantitative guidance that lets IT staff avoid common consolidation pitfalls.
  • Minimize Organizational Impact by ensuring users experience minimal service disruption.

Seasoned DYS consultants use a unique DYS CONTROL! analysis system to assess topology design, infrastructure sizing and pre-consolidation clean-up tasks well ahead of implementing any consolidation change. Their rigorous, methodical analyses and planning help IT staff ensure the consolidation project is executed once and executed successfully - on time and on budget.

Already Proven At Major Firms
"The most difficult aspect of our Domino iSeries server consolidation project was anticipating how the consolidation would affect the network," said David Price, Principal, KBN Consulting, who used DYS to manage a large IBM iSeries server consolidation project at a global financial services firm. "DYS CONTROL! was integral to this planning process and it let us continually validate our assumptions and update our models. With DYS CONTROL!, we were able to accurately plan and meet our project goals for fast ROI and superior performance."

"DYS profiled each of our global Domino network sites, planned capacity needs and created an optimized consolidation plan," said a global Domino Infrastructure Manager at a large international energy company. "The DYS team identified many unused databases that we retired prior to consolidation. This saved many man-months and substantially reduced our post-consolidated storage needs. Not only did DYS show how to optimally consolidate servers, DYS also showed us which servers NOT to consolidate because the higher bandwidth costs did not justify the gains."

"Too often IT staff proceed blindly through server consolidations, creating substantial performance issues, project delays and exposing their company to unbudgeted emergency expenditures," said Stefan Mehlhorn, CEO of DYS Analytics. "If they instead made a modest up-front investment, their project success would have been assured. DYS delivers unique advantages in infrastructure projects and sets a new standard for reducing TCO while increasing QoS."

Accurate Planning: Projecting Today's Usage Patterns on Proposed Consolidation Models
The DYS' five-part methodology provides comprehensive analysis, modeling and a set of activities that result in an accurate and optimized consolidated topology. The DYS methodology includes:

    1. Preliminary Cleanup - minimize the volume of data that needs to be migrated or upgraded and provide a true baseline of usage and loads. This step includes identifying and removing unused applications and mailboxes; fixing major mail routing and replication issues; addressing flawed databases that create excessive replication traffic; and identifying suspect abuse/misuse.

    2. Baseline Profiling - provide accurate analysis and reporting on pre-consolidated, enterprise-wide, use and traffic. From this baseline, assumptions can be confirmed and server consolidation planning can take place.

    3. Feasibility and Initial Design - outline initial, large-impact recommendations that confirm the value and potential success of the server consolidation. Analysis determines which servers are ideal for consolidation and/or centralization; identifies optimal sites; and estimates WAN and server impact.

    4. Detailed Design - accurately model "what if" scenarios for load projections and optimize the consolidation architecture. DYS determines which servers, applications and users get collapsed onto which consolidated servers, develops an application consolidation plan, defines mail routing topologies and replication schedules, and provides capacity planning numbers for WAN, server and storage loads.

    5. Validation - by leveraging metrics and analysis of the current network and continuing to analyze during the project, DYS continually validates the plan and the project assumptions, making adjustments if needed. Such an objective, measured foundation can prove the success of the consolidation project and its savings.

After validation, many customers license DYS CONTROL! to perform periodic assessments ensuring that costs and QoS remain optimized.
