DYS Analytics Helps Linde Gas Cut Costs, Optimize Network Performance for Its Global Collaboration and Messaging System

Saved Nearly $250,000 US on Server, Storage, Bandwidth Costs Annually, within Weeks of Rollout; Identified Wasteful User Behavior, Improved Service Levels, Put IT Staff Back in a Strategic Role

WELLESLEY MA, March 23, 2004 - DYS Analytics, Inc., a leader in application performance management for messaging and collaboration applications, announced that Linde Gas of Munich , one of the world's largest industrial gas suppliers, has successfully deployed DYS' CONTROL! solutions to "Efficiencize" Linde's global distributed collaboration and messaging network. CONTROL! solutions gave Linde comprehensive enterprise analysis, monitoring and reporting facilities on the 1.8 million emails sent weekly and over 60 GB of data replicated daily across its vast IBM Lotus Domino network. Within weeks of deployment, Linde Gas saved over $250,000 US in collaboration infrastructure costs. IT staff now work more strategically, identifying wasteful user practices and optimizing network performance. As a result of these immediate successes, CONTROL! is now being rolled out enterprise-wide to the Linde Gas' parent entity, The Linde Group, an $8.7 billion Euros leading chemical and manufacturing group, based in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Like most major enterprises, Linde Gas has faced escalating email volumes and replication traffic across the 235-server Domino network that unites the 14,000 employees with collaboration and revenue-critical applications. By Q2 2003, the Domino network had grown too large and complex to manage the traditional way - with IT staff manually searching email and replication logs for troubleshooting insight. Performance issues were on the rise, infrastructure costs were becoming a concern and a planned topology redesign underscored the need for in-depth information on actual business usage to plan the next-generation network.

Working Smarter, Providing Added Value to the Business
DYS CONTROL! gave Linde Gas' IT team the metrics and analysis capabilities to gain an in-depth understanding of its enterprise-wide IBM Lotus Domino network. Through CONTROL!, Linde Gas:

  • Identified Wasteful, Costly Behaviors - including wasteful emailing practices and potential email network abuse. Addressing these behaviors lead to a savings of approximately $200,000 US annually on reduced storage, backup and new server requirements. CONTROL! provided Linde Gas in-depth analysis that uncovered wasteful internal practices and unnecessary database replications - activities that its IT staff never knew were occurring. Once identified, Linde IT staff worked with users to show them other, resource-friendly ways, to manage their mail, and cleaned up unused databases. As a result, Linde Gas no longer needed to purchase new storage and network capacity.
  • Optimized Replication and Network Performance - identifying easy-to-make changes to replication schedules that optimized bandwidth and server loads. These changes saved an estimated $25,000 US annually in bandwidth and incremental server capacity. Such optimization let Linde Gas use existing network links more efficiently - eliminating the need to continually upgrade its WAN which would have resulted in ever increasing fixed costs.
  • Objectively Reported on SLA Performance - automatically displaying reports and metrics to a wide range of audiences within Linde Gas, including administrators, IT management and the Linde Group IT board executives. CONTROL! portals provided Linde Gas with a quick and easy way to show the company that it is providing effective, cost-conscious service to its many constituencies.
  • Gained Major Project Detailed Insight - for a topology redesign and a regional server consolidation project. CONTROL!'s in-depth Domino usage metrics are integral in developing and validating plans to carry the enterprise well into the future.
  • Put IT Back in a Strategic Role - with CONTROL! daily reports and drill-down capabilities, Linde IT staff is able to again perform strategic planning on ways the Domino network could enhance the business, rather than focus on manpower intensive activities such as digging through Notes logs and being reactive rather than proactive.

"No one can possibly monitor all the millions of events that happen each day on a complex, huge international Domino network," said Auguste Goldman, manager of the Notes Competency Center at Linde Group. "With DYS CONTROL!, our Notes team is working smarter, reducing costs, and providing additional value to the organization. We're now able to act as strategic thinkers, fixing problem areas before they occur and spotting trends we need to watch, instead of digging through Notes logs."

"CONTROL! is definitely the best add-on product we've bought in the past five years," Goldman continued. "We're eager for the results as it is fully deployed enterprise-wide through the rest of The Linde Group's Domino system

"It is impossible to efficiently manage what you don't fully understand, particularly with vast networks handling millions of emails weekly, as Linde Gas attests," said Stefan Mehlhorn, CEO of DYS Analytics. "DYS' CONTROL! solutions help IT groups at major enterprises such as The Linde Group make their messaging and collaboration applications efficient and easy to manage, so the collaboration network can operate at a substantially lower TCO and improved quality of service."
