Helps "Efficiencize" Global Networks By Dramatically Reducing IBM Lotus Domino Server Storage Costs, Improving Server and Network Performance, Tightening Security
ORLANDO, FL January 24, 2005 - At the Lotusphere 2005 show today, DYS Analytics, Inc., a leader in application performance management for messaging and collaboration applications, announced the availability of CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI) for managing and optimizing IBM Lotus Domino application deployment and usage throughout the enterprise. Part of the DYS CONTROL! 4 family of application performance management solutions for collaboration applications, CUI helps IT staff clean up and "Efficiencize" Lotus Domino networks. It addresses the nagging yet costly issue of identifying and retiring inactive and seldom-used databases and user accounts. It also helps reduce network traffic and improve performance through demand-based optimization of replica deployment.
CUI is sold directly by DYS Analytics and through partners. DYS' CUI solution is on display at DYS' Lotusphere booth # 417a/417b.
Once created, Lotus Domino databases, mailboxes and user accounts live on for years, despite staff changes and inevitable shifts in usage patterns. Inactive databases and their replicas needlessly consume server storage and CPU resources while exposing the organization to security risks and draining valuable WAN bandwidth from inefficient database deployments. This issue is particularly acute in organizations with thousands of databases and users in a global network. Typically IT is unable to solve this complex problem and instead purchases bandwidth, server, disk capacity to compensate.
DYS CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI) lets IT staff clean up their Lotus Domino network and gain immediate cost-savings and Quality of Service improvements. CUI uniquely correlates user information with activity levels to provide vital information and workflow processes to:
- Save Storage, CPU and Bandwidth Costs - By removing inactive databases, little used replicas, and unused mailboxes, IT frees up capacity, reduces backup/restore times, eliminates additional storage capacity needs and lowers network bandwidth consumption.
- Tighten Security - IT identifies unauthorized database and mailbox access so permissions can be updated, HR action taken or stale user IDs removed. As organizations web-enables their corporate applications, IT needs to confirm that only sanctioned databases are accessible from outside the corporate network. CUI analyzes all usage and provides this confirmation.
- Balance Server Loads - By accurately measuring database use across the entire organization, IT ensures that it is getting maximum performance from each Lotus Domino server.
- Rationalize Replica Deployment - By examining database use, IT can determine which replica copies are still needed, which are no longer needed and where additional replicas maybe needed.
- Visualize Enterprise-Wide Use - Within the same web portal, users view their enterprise-wide Lotus Domino, replication, database, IM, eMeeting and IBM Team Workplace (formerly QuickPlace) usage.
- Improve the Efficiency of Major Projects - CUI identifies unused or infrequently used applications and replicas so they can be eliminated before server consolidations or upgrades - cleaning up the environment, increasing project success and decreasing project costs.
- Accurately Plan WAN Capacity for Server Consolidation - CUI's detailed analysis and modeling capabilities allow you to project today's usage volumes onto proposed consolidation topologies to project how consolidating application servers will impact the WAN.
- Automate End-to-End Application Management assuring that mission-critical databases are constantly monitored, even when IT staffs are busy with other tasks.
Automated Cleanup Saves Server Disk Space, Reduces Project Time By Half
"We have been using DYS CONTROL! for several years to manage Lotus Domino server-to-server traffic and performance. Now, with CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI), we will be able to understand client-to-server traffic with in-depth analysis of how our collaborative applications are being used and by whom," said Reiner Gratzfeld, manager, collaboration & Web solutions at Henkel KgaA, a worldwide manufacturer and vendor of home care and personal care products as well as industrial adhesives and other solutions. "We are looking to purge many stale databases that are no longer needed and thereby free much needed server disk space - and we will use CUI on an ongoing basis ensuring that database replicas are deployed only when and where they are needed."
"Mounting costs from inactive or seldom-used databases are gaining IT staff's attention in today's climate of tight budgets and focus on operational efficiency," said Andrew Wolff, VP, Products at DYS Analytics. "Our new CONTROL! Usage Investigator product is a one-of-a-kind solution that immediately delivers substantial cost-savings, performance improvements, and improved security."
What's In CONTROL! Usage Investigator (CUI):
CONTROL! Usage Investigator is sold as a standalone solution and as part of the DYS CONTROL! suite. CUI includes facilities for:
- Automated collection - DYS' proven Information Flow Manager (IFM) efficiently collects, on a schedule basis, relevant data from each server across the enterprise. It analyzes and correlates this data to the Domino Directory.
- Rapid Analysis and querying. CUI uses a SQL-based Analysis Database that contains a unique business-oriented schema to deliver high performance enterprise-wide reporting and analysis.
- Unified Web portal display so that can users report and analyze their Lotus Domino, replication and database usage across the entire enterprise, for easy navigation to critical management information all from the comfort of a single portal.
- Easy report distribution and extremely flexible CONTROL! Report Designer allow IT to either modify existing reports, or create reports from scratch. Optional email notifications alert users when their portals have been updated.
- Enterprise-scalablity - CUI shares the same low-impact and easy-to-deploy architecture as other DYS CONTROL! 4 products. There are no server agents to install, maintain or configure. There is no time-consuming, manual consolidation of individual server logs and reports.
- Automation and administration through a Task Manager allows IT staff to create automated tasks and portals on an unattended, scheduled basis.
