Permessa Enhances Enterprise Instant Messaging Management Platforms with Business-Critical Performance, Compliance Capabilies

New Permessa IM Control! v5 Provides Availability, Compliance, and Archiving Features Demanded By The Distributed Enterprise

WALTHAM, MA January 21, 2008 - Leveraging its 15 years of experience in meeting the needs of leading enterprises for reliable and efficient communications, Permessa Corporation today unveiled Permessa IM Control! v5 for enterprise instant messaging. The product enhances the real-time communications products from IBM and Microsoft with important real-time compliance, availability, and archiving features.

More than 67 million workers used enterprise IM in 2007, with nearly double that level - 127 million users - expected by 2011 (Radicati Group). As deployments further encompass global workers, telecommuters, and travelers, more of the communications by each worker moves to real time communications. These users depend on high availability, presence, and buddy lists to get work done efficiently. Yet IT departments worry about meeting compliance and archiving requirements.

Permessa IM Control! v5 gives CIOs the business-critical control over IM that they need. Permessa IM Control! software instantly archives ongoing IM dialogues and proactively tests all IM services to verify they are up and functioning. It blocks improper communications in real-time and reports policy violations immediately. As native server-side software, Permessa IM Control! addresses both internal and external IM communications, at a lower cost than proxy appliances.

With Permessa IM Control!, IT managers can act quickly to enforce corporate and compliance policies in real-time and keep the IM platform efficient, well-tracked and secure. Features allow IT teams to do the following:

  • Manage and control all enterprise IM services, including chat, electronic meetings, whiteboard sharing and buddy lists.
  • Instantly block messages that violate compliance and abuse policies, based on the individuals participating and message content.
  • Archive chats in high fidelity, including graphics and explicit file transfers, for compliance and legal discovery, when used with proper records retention products.
  • Ensure business-grade reliability with synthetic transactions that test all IM services automatically to measure availability and performance. Synthetic transactions start virtual conversations, launch electronic meetings, test buddy lists, and more.
  • Eliminate wasteful user behavior, such as creating unattended scheduled meetings and leaving open many idle IM windows.
  • Measure the adoption of all services and helps IT manage license deployment.
  • Allocate costs by individual, department, business unit or enterprise-wide.
  • Reduce costs with a native server-side software solution without an expensive proxy appliance.

Permessa IM Control! v5 joins Permessa Email Control! v5 as the latest members of the company's flagship family of solutions for unified management of collaboration technologies, including IM, work spaces, and email. Management solutions for Web 2.0 applications, such as social networking and wikis, also are planned. Both Permessa IM Control! v5 and Permessa Email Control! v5 were showcased in Permessa's booth 232 at today's Lotusphere 2008 event in Orlando.

"Corporate users are demanding instant availability and high performance from real-time communications services, such as instant messaging. The enterprise IM solutions from IBM and Microsoft are excellent platforms, but they do not offer the proactive testing and compliance features that organizations need," said Stefan Mehlhorn, chief executive officer of Permessa Corporation. "Permessa IM Control! v5 can enhance corporate IM deployments by enabling companies to implement comprehensive policies and availability monitoring that are based on our 15 years of experience."

Availability
Permessa IM Control! v5 will be available in Q2 2008 for IBM Lotus Sametime, with Microsoft OCS availability planned for later this year.
